Stephanie Wagner has written a Brocade using the emotion words Desire and Grief in connection with the photo below.
Buried under years of “alone” was the faint scent of “together”. When the woman lost her son, barely three, followed by her husband, she clawed at her skin and tore at her hair until her outside matched her inside. When more death came, she walked through the desert until the soles of her feet touched earth through her shoes.
On the day she bled, the man picked her up and carried her to his cabin. He tended to her silence with firelight and calendula salve. There were no questions, because there were no answers.
When the days were long, she walked under the stars. When the days were short, she slept in his bed.
