I could feel my chest beating faster as I watched the column of light descend into the ground. The others around me seemed oblivious to my shivering and shaky breaths, yet I kept having the feeling that they were judging me. They were thinking, “Why is he so scared of a rainbow? He’s probably the kind of person who jumps at the sight of a butterfly.” People had always laughed whenever I told them rainbows bothered me. It never even made sense to me. One time, I tried to look at one and I was able to feel a burn inside me, as if the light was killing me. I don’t think I’ll ever know why I fear rainbows.
