Free to breathe, at last. This place of fate just parkland now: empty benches where the barracks once sequestered us. Beneath my feet, my elders lie, solemn. I am the witness, though many would rather turn away. My tears like flowers blown across the dust, there then gone. The killing fields are endless. A moveable feast of human flesh, animals, environments — all consumed in flame. What can we do but breathe?
